Which is better/correct...

"...of little importance." Or "...of little import."

I want to use the latter as it feels right and sounds better? 馃

Both are correct. The latter is more poetic, or literary.

@whowasthatmaskedman I've been writing for a while and all of a sudden it looks wrong. I worried using it sounded pretentious or that I'd made it up! 馃槀

@whowasthatmaskedman ...and no great import ...... more widely used?
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@SailingSlow Depends on the circles you move in. If your circle does not split infinitives, probably.
HausOfLunaF
@whowasthatmaskedman what are "split infinitives"? Not once in my education did I ever get taught about those?馃
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@HausOfLuna Examples: "To do so" (split infinitive) "So, to do" (purist version. Infinitive Unsplit)
HausOfLunaF
@whowasthatmaskedman Thank you! I've just learned something which is always a good thing 馃

@whowasthatmaskedman neither of those is a split infinitive, so is not a verb so it can't be split in your first example! The most famous split infinitive is " to boldy go", which should be " to go, boldly" or " boldly, to go". In the end, who cares!
SW-User
@HausOfLuna Except it was wrong!
HausOfLunaF
@SW-User It's done now. I used, "...of little import..."

Sounded ok and kept the same beat in the prose. 馃
HausOfLunaF
@SW-User so it should have been, "...of little importance..."?

Is "of little import" totally wrong?
SW-User
@HausOfLuna No, both are good! The second more literary!
HausOfLunaF
@SW-User oh phew! 馃槀
So you are referring to split infinitives? Stating these are not?
SW-User
@HausOfLuna These are not!
HausOfLunaF
@SW-User ok, got it 馃
