How to deal with uncooperative employees who are dismissive of your authority because of your age?

I’m 24 and a bar/club manager and there’s a few older employees here who don’t take me seriously and refuse to listen to me because they think I’m just dumb because of my age. Or they make fun of the fact that I went to college and assume that I think I’m better than them because of it. I try to be a really nice and supportive boss and I’m rather assertive but it keeps failing. I don’t want to fire them as they are really good at what they do.

Back off with the nice and assertive, dont fix what's not broken. If they know their jobs as you say they dont need support. I suggest a more relaxed approach to management win them over see where they relate, I'm not suggesting being besties, Just chill a little, being a good manager is more than hiring and firing disobedient slaves.

@SW-User hmm interesting reading the comments, you yanks have some draconian approaches to management, no wonder you guys are all so miserable!
@SW-User I know. I was just thinking yesterday we should ask you folks to show us how to live joyfully and positively like you do.

It’s been going on for centuries, too. Why, management was too cheap even to spring for pretty red coats like your boys had.
