Why do people say it's vain to love yourself?

Buttt when you go, "Oh I feel ugly today" they go "NOOO you're beautiful! Don't be hard on yourself!" I mean, there is a point where a person is too vain (pics of themselves all over their house or something) but if someone goes "Hey, I actually am sexy or have a pretty face" they get attacked! It's happened to a lot of people I know, including me... and I grew up ugly so I'm trying to be more confident.

I am reliably informed that too much loving yourself can lead to blindness. Brewer's droop has been mentioned too, but I have lacked the prurience to look that up in a dictionary.

HAHAHA guess you're right @luckybird those are the kind of people who only notice someone who is beautiful or want people to look a certain way
People are insecure & want you to be ugly like them lol

to me being vain or narcisistic, and being confident and happy with who you are are two very different issues. Being able to accept ourselves is a huge eal, and is important, but being so stuck on yourself that you repel people and are obnoxious is another thing entirely

There's just something about a person singing their own praises that's unattractive. And besides it's what's inside that really matters.

You are beautiful @msoreally, we should all love ourselves we are worthy of our own love

When you don't hear it often I guess its easy to fall in that "I'm so ugly" trap
