How does one ask for attention in a productive way?

I'm mostly asking this question for future reference.

I have more or less just dealt with my ups and downs alone. I find it really easy to be there for other people, but I have a really hard time asking for help.

I don't feel shy if I need help at work or if I am stuck on a road. I can't ask for help from my lover that he must stay coz I will be miserable without him. I always let them go and never look back..sorry not sure if I answered your Qs
