What are your qualifications?
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
@MarkPaul An open mind, kind heart, and friendly soul.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Do you have references?
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
For what?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Well... for having "an open mind, kind heart, and friendly soul."
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
Just that I'm okay with all sorts of topics, that I love helping people with their problems, and I enjoy just talking to people
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
I was confused about what you meant by references. I thought you meant it in a professional way
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Yeah, I get that's how you see yourself, but you can't very well self-proclaim your own credentials with no validation. It would be like calling yourself a "stable genius" without anyone else validating it. I mean... you see the problem here, right?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Well, you are offering your services, but it's not clear what qualifications you have. I'm not trying to be a dick, but do you have experience or training in providing guidance with the type of problems that normally come up here?
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
Not so much credentials as much as a general description. Just some basic adjectives about myself to act as a causual introduction
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 But, we don't know if you are qualified to actually provide useful or helpful advice, right? I mean, you literally get my concern, right?
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
If I seemed like I was offering counseling or something like that that wasn't the purpose. I meant like friendly advice/help or just someone to vent to
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Oh... well, I guess. I'll monitor to make sure everything stays above-board.
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
I get your concern. If we're talking serious depression or something, then a mental health professional would be the person to go. There's a large difference between advice and counseling
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
For example, a woman asked how to access free wifi in a restaurant and I helped her with that.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Yeah, I guess that's true. But, "helping people with their problems" kind of suggests (to me) that you are open for business in working through literally any number of issues. I mean, I'm not suggesting you shouldn't do that or can't do that. It's just that it seems like a big undertaking. I hope you don't take your responsibilities in this regard lightly.
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
It wasn't anything serious, just some friendly help over the internet :)
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
Definitely won't take this lightly! Just the victim of not being specific enough! Glad to see someone else on the internet with so much concern for others!
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Well, what happens if when she asks for the password (your advice) they literally bite her head off for bothering them, when the password is clearly posted throughout the restaurant? And, what happens if she is hacked while she is on that public unsecured network. Will you be here for her then? I hope you will.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 Well... yeah, you know how it is.
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
She was an older woman who wasn't sure about how to access the wifi. I don't think they would be so openly rude to someone who has a perfectly reasonable question. As to problems that may arise, I'll still be here
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
Just a friendly person trying to make the world a little better through kindness
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 People are openly rude all day long. And, it seems odd to me that an older woman would be inclined to use wifi in a fast food restaurant. Something is not adding up here.
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
She didn't see any signs with the password on them and was just wondering if she needed to ask for a password or was there something that she needed to do on her computer to access the wifi
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Firefrey94 But, that only adds to the mounting suspicion. They have the password plastered throughout the restaurant. Having free wifi access is something they actively promote.
Firefrey94 · 26-30, M
All I know is that she was having trouble and I helped her. She even said that she appreciated my help
