I live in a rural area next to the Southern Drakensberg mountains in S.Africa and there are very few lights nearby at night so on a clear night the stars are quite spectacular. You need to get far from the city lights somewhere.

They would, but my dad's in a foreign country and my mom's not one to drive out. Money's not an issue with us. It's just that my family's rather dysfunctional, especially now.

Sheesh...well...you'll have to use that mathematical mind of yours to work things out and make a plan.

I do hope I can observe space eventually...
LadyGiselle
I can see it fairly well from here because I live in a rural area. We also have a few observatories around that have nights where you can go and look if you want to. I live in Australia though so WA and NT get really good images of the Milky Way

Oh so lucky! You also get to see the Magellanic clouds xP
LadyGiselle
Yes I can see them from here which is awesome

I was once in Alice Springs and of a night out is just gob smacking... It truly is a sea of stars that girdle the heavens ... Get he to the country girl, take a tripod and a camera with a B setting (bulb) for exposure

I was in Alice Springs once, but that was after a really bad experience in the middle of the Outback, and all of us were too tired to pay attention to the stars. Well, wait. I do have a memory of me looking out at the stars and watching the sky. Maybe if I had gotten down and my eyes adjusted, I'd have seen the Milky Way.
Far as the photography, I've been doing exactly that minus the country part. Except my brother lost the damned CF card before I could transfer it, so many space pictures are now lost.

I am fairly close to a big city so there is a lot of light pollution. The sky is never black, only a brownish color. I can see a few stars at night, but really only the very bright ones.

Same here :S

TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
Oh that's so sad :c
TheBadgeringWitness
I can't see the stars unless I drive far enough from town.
TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
Same here... unless I go out long after midnight, I can't really see the stars...
TheBadgeringWitness
That sucks. :/
It's nice getting away from the city, though, and seeing many stars dot the sky after not being able to see them for a while.

I can see stars, planets, and the Andromeda Galaxy where I live. It's pretty amazing.
TetrisGuy · 26-30, M
I dream of seeing Andromeda one day... :S
