Whats the best external hard drive to get?

I'm looking for a harddrive but get sooo confused as to what brand to get
hereisme
How much memory do you want because more memory it has more it cost

How much are you willing to pay

Do you want something really small and portable or something to put on your desk which you will get more memory capacity than a small one probably.

You should go to a computer store discuss it all with them see what they suggest but don't buy.
Once you know some facts check out sites like amazon see what they have

Also don't forget if you have a mac its possible not all will be compatible so if you do have one then check before you buy.

You really need to discuss this thing with an expert so like I says go to a computer store tell them what your looking for, get some facts and go away so you do not feel spy of moments pressure to buy what they are offering just need to find out a few facts then look around

Hope that helps

My preference is Western Digital, they make several of the others on the market also, but I have had the best luck with them, watch for black Friday deals, I like the Passport model or the Elements, got both and have good luck with them, the one I don't like and often has crashes is Seagate, just been my experience both at home and at work.

I already did and it doesn't work on ANY computer what so ever

Have you got a spare cable? Sometimes the solder on the USB socket in the drive breaks.
Anyway, the good thing about external drives is that often you can just take the disk out of the case, put it in a new case and your data is still there. Most times it's the circuit in the case that fails, not the hard drive (which are pretty reliable these days).

Depends on your needs.
I've got a Western Digital 2.5'' that I use with my laptop because it works on USB power alone. It's portable, silent but not so cheap and not so fast.
I've also got a big 3.5'' external hard drive case with a 500GB disk in it. This enables me to use surplus drives I've got about and has the advantages of being faster as it's a better drive and has eSATA. On the other hand, it's noisy, cumbersome and needs external power.

Seagate or Western Digital are two good brands. You should be able to find a 2TB drive for $85 - $100 & perhaps even a 3TB size for that same price (or maybe $99-$119 at most for 3TB) on Black Friday specials, which will be started soon.

well theres a 2TB hard drive for $99 right now yeah

Don't know how big your computer's hard drive is but for most people, 2 TB is plenty of space for backing up files. You don't need to back up programs because they can be reinstalled. You are only backing up your own personal data. So that might be the deal you want. I think I got a 2 TB at Costco last year for $89. Sounds like you have the answer you were looking for. I'm assuming the drive you found is a WD or Seagate? Hitachi is also good but I'm not sure if they make external drives.

One more thing and thats no matter what HD you buy always unplug it properly by clicking to remove it first because if you just pull the USB out the sock it can sometimes corrupt the HD
I recenty had that I had stored a load of movies on it and I used to just unplug it but one day just got corrupted and lost everything

If you have alot of stuff to save it might be a good idea to have more than 1 HD incise things one of them does get corrupted or damaged in some other way

personally I don't like ext hard drives, but I don't really need the portability aspect. NAS is a much more reliable option.
darktippedrose · 36-40, F
oh I see. would that be a good backup source?
doomsdaysmores
I like it as a backup location as well as just centralized storage. All depends on your needs.

i need a backup and a transportable storage

Any brand would work .. So long as it comes with a whole load of movies or porn ... Depending on your preference ;) lol just kidding ..
Read the reviews , I'm sure you'll get enough help there :)
