My preference is Western Digital, they make several of the others on the market also, but I have had the best luck with them, watch for black Friday deals, I like the Passport model or the Elements, got both and have good luck with them, the one I don't like and often has crashes is Seagate, just been my experience both at home and at work.

LOL! Sorry I badmouthed it so, you will probably not have any problem! I get mine from Amazon, they have nice covers too!

well my seagate is NOT working lol. and the cord was always funny. it would unplug at the drop of a hat. and now need to get the data restored

I am not surprised, the new ones are nice, Western Digital you can get a whole Terabyte for a reasonable price, in fact for back up the ones I get now just plug right into the USB port for their power and everything, so one less cord and they are really a small footprint, very nice! Sorry you had problems, DATA restoring can be tricky.

Try it in a different computer. I've always had to plug my WD Elements to a USB hub (with external power) because somehow my PC doesn't give enough USB current to spin the disk.

I already did and it doesn't work on ANY computer what so ever

Have you got a spare cable? Sometimes the solder on the USB socket in the drive breaks.
Anyway, the good thing about external drives is that often you can just take the disk out of the case, put it in a new case and your data is still there. Most times it's the circuit in the case that fails, not the hard drive (which are pretty reliable these days).
