I can appreciate how you are feeling but beware of going too far in the opposite direction. Yes you can be hurt when you are gullible but you can be hurt in a different way by being too cynical. The vast majority of people are well intentioned, kind and trying to do the right thing, don't let the rotten apples blind you to the rest. My advice would be to ask questions and observe better, certainly but to trust more carefully rather than less.

I can be that way as well.
There's only so much conscience effort anyone can make so don't beat yourself up if you don't do it 100% right.
It's unfortunate but there are some people that pick on the naive and there are people who like to protect as well, but be careful on here.
I like to warn people there are vultures who start to circle once you admit to any frailties... I'm not saying you shouldn't admit to any frailties, but have some boundaries and don't let people cross them.
I had to learn hard way so, I hope you won't.

Over the last 2 years I've finally seen this and realise that I need to be more sceptical, ask more questions, observe better, trust less and doubt more.

Wrong Realisation. You have to do just the opposite. What you need to understand is that you are being assessed by the way you assess others. Trust is something that develops along the way. So do the testing before trusting and not trust blindly. If you keep doubting everything, you will only end up in a phobia and face trust issues yourself. Instead develop knowledge to clear the doubt.

While all that you say is true I’m sure, the world is becoming increasingly dark. I find myself turning off the news and disconnecting from the world outside my friends. Good luck

Don’t become too hard edged though, there’s still nice people and good times to be had.

Good advice to give to yourself... Trust is earned, not given ;)
