I wonder if it had anything to do with global temperature as it gets warmer bodies would get bigger to allow necessary cooling. ThaTS my theory

Well probably not because large bodies are much worse than small bodies at loosing heat. Surface area you see. Large animals actually have a proportionally much smaller surface area than tiny animals.
