If you're in Australia - stay with fixed-line when forced to switch to NBN or drop fixed-line entirely for home internet ?

I can't decide if I want to switch from ADSL to the NBN still on fixed-line (copper) to where I live or drop fixed-line entirely and use wireless broadband exclusively for my home internet connection.

Help! I get really pathetic mobile phone signal coverage so concerned that as more and more people choose to dump fixed line all the wireless services will become saturated and effectively no better than what's on offer now.

I am not in Australia, but the NBN is a great concept. The internet should be thought of as electricity and water.

Nearly 20 years ago, I insisted on direct point to point designs, thinking the cost overruns are worth it. I no longer believe so. The design complexities associated with point to point designs, will eventually cripple the whole thing.

Fiber to the node, and then either copper or fiber from the node to the individual home/business is not only more efficient and will provide better performance. This is the short version.

Wireless can be one of the options, in a hybrid fiber wireless network to offer service to all end points, from small to large.
I don't live in au, I work with people there. I'd never want to rely on wireless network only anywhere. I get the impression that nbn is pretty good.

@stound Unfortunately it's not that good. It was supposed to a full replacement of the in-ground copper network with fibre to the premises, but that was scrapped when the present liberal aka republican government was elected and replaced with a cheaper, sub-standard fibre to the node model. That's why there is a big push away from fixed-line to wireless, but wireless is inherently far less reliable. And wireless is generally much more expensive to the consumer.

Stay with ADSL if it's working OK. My ADSL sux, so I'll be going wireless when it's available. It can't be any worse.

I don't really trust wireless 100%. At time's it isn't as strong as a wire hook up.
