At what age do you feel it is appropriate for a child to have social media accounts?

Of course an adult would still monitor. I think at any age social media is detrimental to the perception of reality even if used appropriately.

My vote would be 12 years old. Almost a teenager, better to start early than later.

BTW my stepsister is 12 and she has social media accounts (FB and Instagram)
With the easy access and all their friends having access, further more use of laptops and devices in schools it's hard to prevent their access. What we can do is giving them good habits, and know about risks, and keep an eye on their doings.

Later rather than sooner.
I think a young person needs to spend more time building friendships in person and doing activities that take them outdoors. Social media gets too addictive.

I'd like to say 11 or 12 maybe, around that age. Social media is part of society now, they need to learn about it, learn most of it is nonsense, that some of it is good etc.

maybe when they hit teenagerville, 13. but strictly to only speak to and add people they know in real life, and regularly monitored by a parent/adult

I had accounts pretty young, but most of them were fully monitored by mom. Lol, some still technically are.
