I wish water had a lower melting point

I mean obviously not because that would probably have catastrophic implications for life on Earth, but I just really frikkin love a glass of ice cold water, and I wish it could be even colder, but if it was as cold as I wanted it to be then it would be solid ice, which I can’t drink, because duhh.

But just think how refreshing it would be to drink liquid water that was like, idk, 28 degrees? Even 30? I’m talking Fahrenheit, obviously lol.

I was thinking, what if there was some non-H2O liquid we could drink that was close enough to water in taste but had a lower freezing point, a liquid we could mix with flavors and it would be like a really cold juice. Problem is if it’s too cold when you ingest it it could freeze the water in your body in the areas around your throat and stomach… no bueno… also I highly doubt any of that is possible, for a multitude of reasons.

Now what is possible is to alter the melting/freezing point of a solution of mostly water by adding certain compounds to the solution… I mean, it works with salt. Salt does lower the freezing point and raise the boiling point of water when added, however we wouldn’t wanna use that because no one wants to drink salt water. Very NOT refreshing.
Now I wonder if there are any compounds that would act similarly but are tasteless, or at least don’t taste that bad…

Welp that’s the end of the 🛤 for this 🚂 of thought, thank you for riding and please exit on your left

Alcohol,corn syrup, sugar, maltose, dextrose, milk, Grape juice and beet juice lower the temp.

The freezing point of grape juice concentrate depends on the concentration of sugars in the juice. The freezing point is typically around -18°C (-0.2°F) or below.

@Tastyfrzz I didn’t realize that grape juice could get that cold before freezing. I’ve never noticed any difficulty freezing grape juice… not that I’ve tried it too many times. Still, sugary drinks in general always seemed to not get too much colder than water hmmmm

@Tastyfrzz you know what, I also just realized that I was thinking of 32 degrees being the standard temperature of ice, but that’s just the highest it can be. It’s usually much colder

You could make it absolute zero (0 K or -273.15 C) but I don't know if h2o can exist properly at that temp.
You can if its salty but who wants to drink that?

@SStarfish haha exactly

You're hotter than others, that's equal to colder water 🧐

I like to drink the brine in a can of tuna, rather than pouring it down the drain.

I have never tried it chill before, though. Always room temperature.
