I Received Corporal Punishment At School
Rule or switch on the palm of hands. For bad grades or misbehaviour at school, I got the 'reword' at home, with the belt.

At my junior school (8-11) the cane on the palm was the standard punishment, usually just one stroke. The cane used was a lighter junior school cane, suitable for use on the hands. I cannot ever recall any injuries.
Boys and girls were always very compliant with holding out their hands. Many boys were pleased shortly after being caned for the first time and would often show you the tell tale red line across their palm. For

@Retrospection1: You are right: we had to get it stoically in the class for not making a laughing-stock of ourselves, even after getting 5 strokes many of us had tears in their eyes.

Not in favour of corporal punishment on the hands of children and youths. Too much risk of permanent damage, even with a ruler. I got the cane on my hands at school a couple of times and one time there was nerve damage for months. But we mainly had to bend over for the cane, and though it hurt like crazy, and left bad bruises, they were gone in a week or so - never any permanent damage.

I think most of our generation in the UK went to schools where the cane was used. Hard and often, certainly in my case.

@ernestcharles The parochial school run by the nuns used a strop on the bare bottom or the back of the thighs; the junior college I went used a strap on both hands or on a bare bottom up to 16 years old; for the senior boys, there was no provision in the rule for corporal punishments neither was any article article prohibiting the use of a cane , a strap or a paddle by the concerned authorities when they deemed it necessary for the common good of the students. By the way, so immature I was, T found the way of getting the strap twice, kneeling in front of the prefect in my senior years
