Phrases from the distant past

When I was young, very many years ago, my mum used to take me with her shopping and visiting people. If I misbehaved, or behaved less than perfectly, she had two phrases that compelled instant obedience.
The first was:
"Wait till I get you home!"
The second:
"I'll deal with you later."
These phrases could be combined into a single, chilling sentence:
"I'll deal with you when we get home."
Any one of these was sufficient to create an impeccably behaved child or youth in the hope that mum would forget the earlier misdemeanours and remember only the perfect daughter of the latter part of her trip!

@Alfred22 Thank you, Alfred.
@MandyMitchell Did you ever wonder if your good ensuing good behavior had sufficed to cancel the promised spanking and then actually inquire? What were the results?

That statement, coming from you, should make everyone proud!
I've always appreciated your analytical approach to language. 🌷
@helenS Thank you, Helen of S. You are my favorite SW philosopher.

@Alfred22 Thank you – I still prefer Hegel over Richard Rorty and Donald Davidson though!
@helenS Greetings Helen of S.

Hegel aimed to account for all of world history. The two Americans had more modest goals.

I preferred Kim's thinner account of so-called "mental" events and mental causation but Davidson is right about two events being identical only if they have the same causes AND the same effects. Rorty was on the wrong side of whether Philosophy should try to "get it right" or be an accurate representation of nature. Clearly it should.

Hegel thought that history was fulfilled with the unification of some form of the German state. He may not have included all, of or possibly any, of S. So, watch out for Hegel's World Spirit lest it leave you and all you love behind.
