I Received Corporal Punishment At School

I was given the cane a few times during my time at secondary school.
During my first 2 yrs I was given the slipper more times than anyone else and was given a prize for it.
Turned out my then form tutor was gay. And was getting off on it every time.

I went to a private boy's military prep school in the 70's and we got caned on a regular basis, mine was almost every week for smoking, talking back or swearing and we always got caned in front of all the other boys. Housemaster had the end of a bamboo fishing rod wrapped in leather and electrical tape which he used to cane us, fully clothed but 10 swats hurt like hell, never stopped me from smoking though and there was nothing sexual about it, it was purely for punishment.

@spjennifer you are a prime example of what happens when boys are sent to an all-boy posh prep school

@davidstorm What makes you say that?

@spjennifer lmfao

@spjennifer Swats? What are you, a wasp?
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@NankerPhelge what other word would you have me use for it? Smack, clobber, whack? Have you ever been caned?
davidstorm · C
@NankerPhelge swots is a posh public school word for strokes of the cane, like one got ten swots today across my disarray, mater and pater says I must have earned it.

@spjennifer "Smack" and "whack" were commonly used words in my school days. "Swat" was something we did with a rolled-up newspaper to kill a wasp. I keep seeing the word "swats" in corporal punishment contexts on the Internet but I've never heard it once in real life. What started the Internet craze for saying it?

@davidstorm That's wrong. "Swot" is school slang for someone who studies hard to the point of becoming introverted and unsociable. It has nothing whatsoever to do with corporal punishment.

@NankerPhelge well at my old school Exxn, swats were strokes of the cane for being rowdy, late for fagging, and generally misbehaving and swotting was prepping for an exam etc

@NankerPhelge Interesting as SWOT is not a word but an acronym for Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat, used as techniques for business analysis. When i was in school in the 70's we were still taught proper English as opposed to slang or American which smack and whack are derivatives of, we weren't allowed to use slang. The swat comes from the sound the cane makes when slicing through the air and striking the bottom, it doesn't make a smacking or whacking sound which a strap, rolled up newspaper or a paddle might make so this was why I used it. Prep Schools were elitist institutions and boys who went to them were disciplined whether we liked it or not and we learned the many ways in which Corporal Punishment could be used for it...

@spjennifer it was a slip of finger a typo, but if we are nitpicking swats = According to the Historical Dictionary, Law Enforcement, the term "SWAT" was used as an acronym for the "Special Weapons and Tactics units. I wasn't really taking the piss out off you and didn't expect it back, so if one starts to lose an argument hit with baseless facts you just browsed google for, you're not the only one with google pity you didn't recall it from memory [SWOT analysis - Wikipedia, SWOT analysis (or SWOT matrix) is a strategic planning technique used to help a person or organization identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats etc, etc.] wring a bell Mr ding dong

@davidstorm You'll note that my response was directed at @NankerPhelge and not at you, i was commenting more on his objection to me using swat as an appropriate term for the sound of caning. The word swat originated (early 1800's) long before it became more commonly used for law enforcement though and I did mention the SWOT analysis in my response to him above and i took the term from my own experience in business not Wikipedia. I wasn't taking the piss out of you as my comments were directed at him, sorry if you mistakenly felt it was directed at you...
davidstorm · C
@spjennifer my last word on sounded like it was directed at me
the term's you used was the word for word from wiki not from your own brain
please do not answer thanking you end off

@spjennifer Where I come from we don't say "swats" meaning "smacks" or whatever. I'd never heard of that before I went on the Internet so I'm guessing it's just another silly Internet slang term.
davidstorm · C
@NankerPhelge canning was referred to by a lot of names whacko, swats, belting, caning, twitching, time for toe touching, time to lose your shorts, its stick time, birching, but in most schools it was called flogging, I was flogged quite often I think Mr Wetton our headmaster was either a pervert or a sadist I think both

@davidstorm What does corporal punishment under any name have to do with putting food into tins?
