Never had it in mine

@Gumba1000 it was abolished in state schools in the UK in 1985, but it had already started to be used much less by then anyway.

@Tuscan I'm too young. I'm glad I never received it, however after having gone to school with some of the biggest pricks in the land, corporal punishment might have been worth keeping.

Most people who support its use consider it to be useful to modify the behaviour of others rather than themselves. It seems to me that schools are far more civilised and well disciplined now than they were in my day.

@Tuscan I can't compare. But when you have some idiot at the back of the class shouting "Willets wanks whales", it can be quite distracting. A sharp face slap or knuckle smack would stop that at least.

As one of the more disruptive pupils, I can't say that getting hit ever modified my own behaviour for any prolonged period of time. @Gumba1000

@Tuscan Well you're just a tough nut aren't you?

@Gumba1000 I don't think I was actually, I just realised that the punishments were not particularly severe, or perhaps it was a case of familiarity breeding contempt. A cricket ball hurt far more and we played cricket for fun.
