Some of those should be taught by the parents at home, not a teacher at school.
@Magenta I don't disagree, but not everyone has good parents or guardians.

@Magenta Generally speaking, parents should never stop teaching. Some of the problems today stem from parents that want the schools to be completely responsible for the actions and education of their “children”.

Teachers are there to educate, not raise your children. It’s also not a teachers job (as a result) to teach to the lowest common denominator.

@jackieash Sadly true, but we don't live in a perfect world.

@Adogslife Indeed! I concur.

Parents at home should be first and foremost and school secondary to learning.
Not only that, but can you imagine the resources and time involved to teach a few of those subjects? It would take specialized persons.

@Magenta Unfortunately, too many parents today don't qualify for the job. But hey, let's shrug it off as we don't live in a perfect world and never teach the kids anything useful because the parents should have done it, right?

@LordShadowfire No, wrong. Your words not mine. 🙄
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Magenta Nope. I'm summarizing what you just said. Don't like it? Rethink what you said.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire More like - Don’t like the responsibility, don’t have children.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Adogslife I don't think you want to start that discussion with me.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire If you’re ok with generational ignorance, there isn’t a discussion to be had.

Assuming otherwise, the system is broken. Democratic (not the party per se) patronizing doesn’t work without a quid pro quo.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Adogslife I'm not okay with generational ignorance, but I'm also not okay with making the parents teach their kids this stuff, because a lot of them didn't learn it from their parents.

As you say, the system is broken. We need an educational framework that teaches kids real world skills instead of "the mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell".
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire I don’t disagree with a word of that at all.

Reality needs practical solutions that move everyone forward.
