In my school we wore uniforms. One thing I remember is that there were fewer problems with bullying (around clothing), people didn’t get beaten up and have designer items stolen. Nobody got sent home for wearing something "too revealing" (although some girls were told to replace uniform skirts that they’d hemmed too short), and where there was gang activity nobody was endangered by inadvertently wearing gang "colors". There were all kinds of school issues, but this was just one less hassle for the administration.

@bijouxbroussard In the UK, most schools insist the uniform be bought from the school, or its "official suppliers", at a greatly inflated price. Children from impoverished families, who have to juggle eating, heating, or simply keeping a roof over their heads, and can't easily afford the overpriced uniform, are bullied by the teachers by being put into isolation. That continues until their parents "see sense" and the family goes hungry or cold long enough to save enough money to buy one.
