Have you ever had to go barefoot in gym class?

@DavidT8899 A little bit. We were told that shoes weren't allowed because they marked the gym floor, then our teacher wore them anyway 🙄 In the winter it was quite uncomfortable working in bare feet.

@GentleLucille If it really was about marking the floor,then the teachers should have been in bare feet too!

@DavidT8899 Probably so. They wore trainers and warm tracksuits 🙁

@GentleLucille Do you think that making you go barefoot while they wore shoes was sort of a disenpowering thing to make the kids feel vulnerable and more receptive to authority?

@DavidT8899 No, we needed to have bare feet to do gymnastics and dance safely. But adults should still set an example.

@GentleLucille I agree I mean,an adults shoes can damage the floor just as easily as a childs.Just be thankful you didnt end up barefoot in the main office of your school!

@DavidT8899 Why did that happen?

We once ended up barefoot outside as there was a fire drill while we were doing PE 🙁

@GentleLucille I had gymnastics as part of my P E in middle school and we all had to leave our shoes and socks in the changing rooms and go up to the gym in bare feet.During one of the classes,the teacher asked me to deliver a note to the main office(I was a student aide.)The main office was right across the hall from the gym,and the teacher insisted I go over there right away.

@GentleLucille More than that,I remember her sort of smiling to herself over my embarassment.

@GentleLucille I was hoping to get in and out of the office before anyone noticed,but they noticed!It was VERY embarassing!

@DavidT8899 Embarrassing for a boy 🙁 We girls often had to be in bare feet for lessons like drama and dance. I did a whole school assembly in just my leotard. We were more used to it.

@GentleLucille Embarrassing for ANYONE when you have to give the vice-principal a note in her office while standing there in bare feet!

@GentleLucille Im sure she DID mean to make fun of me,but Im also pretty sure that she didnt mean anything by it.Nontheless,it was embarassing,especially for a middle schooler.

@GentleLucille Also,let me guess:they wouldnt let you wear socks because they were too slippery on the gym floor,right?
