Geography field trip
What is your most disappointing memory of school?
Mine was the year 8 geography field trip to the Gower Peninsula. This was an eagerly anticipated rite of passage in my school. A joint residential with our male counterparts at the boys' school, and five days when we could wear our own clothes and be treated a bit more adult by the teachers.
Inevitably I was overlooked and ignored for the first four days as the popular girls asserted themselves and the natural order of the universe resolved itself 😕
Until the last evening. When I somehow managed to get a pencil eraser stuck in my nose 🤦♀️ All of a sudden I was the centre of attention and the life and soul of the party 🙄 When at around 10.30pm it became clear that this was not a party trick and it wasn't going to come out of its own accord, one of the teachers drove me to accident and emergency. I sat in the waiting room in my pyjamas and dressing gown while some medically qualified people also had a good laugh at my misfortune 😟
Then we drove back to the youth hostel and I once more slipped back into social obscurity 😔
