Watching and proudly admitting to be watching Porn has become quite public nowadays as compared to when we were young..

What could be the possible reasons behind this periodic change over the years?
..**Clears my browsing history** I don't watch porn, I'm a good girl.

Nobody would actually believe you if you said you didn’t.

Just like it was in those good ol’ days everybody talks about.

While at first we regarded porn at arms-length, the more we're exposed to discussion about porn and how common reading/viewing it is, the more corroborated our private sexual longings are until it's no big deal to reveal ourselves. I would argue with the term "proudly" though, because if it's so normal, there's little reason to express pride.

Alternatively, wouldn't it be better to recognize that while watching porn, we're thinking ourselves into the character of our choice, banking the internalized experience we've just had to enhance future fantasizing? That dividend from watching porn is best kept to one's self lest it become diluted through telling and retelling. Reveal lesser feelings if you must, but keep the best simmering at peak potency just for yourself. Preservation, not pride.

because all change, what was shocking before it doesn't shock anymore. I take the example of The Exorcist, I watched a documentary on youtube about it, it was showing people viewing it live in the theatre. Some fainted, other cried in terror. Now we watch it to spend a good time.

People hid the fact they watched porn in the past, now they openly admit it because they don't care anymore, they can scream on every roof with a megaphone they watch porn, no one cares

The degradation of society
The media and commercial interests have been sexualizing just about every single aspect of our lives for decades, near nudity in public is the norm in this country with thong bikinis and skintight leggings, sex is all around us, porn is prevalent everywhere on the internet and every man, women and child with a cell phone or laptop can instantly access any kind of sexual act that they desire or can imagine.
Everyone watches pornography, in passing or as a habit or matter of course.

Why shy away from admitting to watching something virtually everyone has seen.
It’s normalized at this point and constantly expanding throughout society
longhairedcougar · 51-55, F
Internet paved way for socializing too much to the point where a lot of weird things are normalized over the years because of it.We can't do anything about it.

When I was young it was dirty little secret you kept to yourself (or a couple of mates when you found a grot mag discarded in a alley). There was little access to porn, now everyone can watch what they like when they like

Now it's almost a shared experience because of technology...chances are someone on the internet would have at some point watched porn. Plus the anonymity of the internet allows you be more open and honest about it
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
I’m not proud of it, but I do enjoy it.
longhairedcougar · 51-55, F
@Jonjdw ouch! the moment of truth eh?
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@longhairedcougar I guess can’t say I’m ashamed. But I’m not gonna go around talking about it.

Kids these days. Back in my day, wehad to work for it. Figure out where to find the VHS tape, and then when the house will be empty to use the VHS machine, and some loud TV. Wasn't a thing to hog the famil.y room for this.

@longhairedcougar Kind of bored :-)
longhairedcougar · 51-55, F
@Northwest sorry?
romper69 · 51-55, M
@Northwest If I had the technology when I was a teen II would never have passed any exams...probably never have gone out. I'd be a pale dehydrated youth with a Popeye arm

1. The media trying to tell us that watching porn is a "healthy way to explore your sexuality" and that "it's not actually bad for you or addictive at all"

2. It's too easily accessible, which leads to...

3. Too many of us have just accepted the fact that we're more than addicted
longhairedcougar · 51-55, F
@eventtemple123 are you?
lonelyloner · 31-35, F
don't know from where you are and about where you are talking about but as an south east asian girl where i was living nearly 16-17 years ago , already saw that time that age of all around even preteen were addicted to watch porn that time even in public places
SemiAnonymous · 61-69, M
It's become so available that now it's normal.

it is like masturbation. Very taboo back in the day, but I was at Walmart today, and saw a selection of vibrators by the condoms and lube.

@SW-User Freudian slip?
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Porn has been popularized and normalized by its prevalence on the internet and in society in general.
longhairedcougar · 51-55, F
@Muthafukajones I know.. wasn't a thing back then
Probably because with the internet, everyone saw how common porn is. Before that, I'm guessing you could only find porn in certain sections of small stores, so there was this impression that only a tiny minority was degenerate enough to watch porn, so you better not let anyone know you're part of that minority. Whereas now, if someone claims they don't watch porn, it's like being the one person on Earth who doesn't listen to music.
SW-User
I’m actually surprised there isn’t advertising on television for it 🙆‍♂️
🤦‍♂️
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
Well I do love watching the lovely people and hopefully no one can see me
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
People hide behind screens now. It's pretty anonymous.
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
Accessibility has normalized it
But most porn is so awful
1490wayb · 56-60, M
i bet you have been the star in some videos
People and values change.
JustDJ76 · 46-50, M
Accessibility probably. Since it’s so accessible now, more people are watching it so it’s just become normalized.
Many people make personal porn, so it has become a part of the background of the culture, in some ways...
oldercanuck1 · 70-79, M
@SomeMichGuy yes i always wanted to make movies with my wife for us ,, but not her thing ,,,
oldercanuck1 · 70-79, M

Yep. We also openly discuss masturbation. As someone else said...it's fairly anonymous.
