I hear this from men mostly but

Why do people say I look innocent? How am I even supposed to take that “its your eyes”
Is the one

is that going by your pfp? You do look kinda young.
BlueVeins · 22-25
young & cute, mostly
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
I think you just look like a normal young lady.

I am not commenting on your level of attractiveness in what I say.

A lot of times when I hear men say that to a young lady, I think it is mainly maniplualtion.
Jordayray · 26-30, F
@Zeusdelight I always kinda thought that too
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Jordayray Yes, but after a little while, most can usually be worked out.
It is rarely ever an observation made without an agenda behind it. Often it is used in order for you to prove that you aren't innocent, which is what they really want.

It likely has to do with the ratio of your eye size to your face size. We associate people with larger eye-to-face ratios with being younger because we're hardwired to find children "cute," which keeps us from drowning them at birth.

So, I assume that you're a petite young woman with a high eye-to-face ratio, making you look younger than you are, somewhat child-like and "innocent."

@DunningKruger Precisely... hence the phrase 'wide-eyed innocence'. It's why friendly aliens are depicted as having large eyes (ET is a classic example, as is Yoda).
We employ a whole range of cosmetics and behaviours to enhance eye size, and the effect on males is remarkable! 😀

It always causes me great amusement to 'bat my eyelashes' while I'm speaking with men - there's an immediate and reliable increase in their attention and malleability 😂

Belladonna (Atropa belladonna), also known as deadly nightshade, dilates the pupils (which is why its name means 'beautiful woman') and has been used for that since the Middle Ages. Doctors administer it during eye surgery (atropine).

Innocent can be 'code' for 'pliable'.
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
Angelic. Heavenly. Pure etc…

You probably give a natural association effect with the word after someone sees you initially.

The way innocence was always described, you got the image. So it works in tandem with how they were raised and observed.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I've never seen how you act. How could anyone say why without knowing how you act.

To say why would require to see you in person.

Ask those that say it to you. Not that they will though.
It’s a compliment we look for innocence so we can corrupt you and make u naughty. Then u can continue to look innocent onto others lol.
LetsDance · 22-25, F
In my opinion 'innocent' connotes an angelic look and perhaps inexperience in the art of love.
You look innocent is the most common compliment men give to women.

It mostly means you look naive.
redback · 51-55, M
Maybe you just look young and possibly they are putting you in the same boat
seaglass · F
It's a head game... a way to get you to reveal personal information

MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
I don't know.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
It means you don't look intimidating or threatening.
