I have a "love of my life" that's in prison for 10 more years

I love his heart and soul. But I've been keeping my options open. My family would never want me to be with this guy. I met a guy last week and we hung out one night. It was nice, went on a dock on the lake and just sit in a boat and talked all night. He seems really excited about me. I don't know what to do because this guy is really sweet and nice.

Umm go for the one who’s got freedom
Those prison relationships don’t seem to have much of a shelf life once the person gets out. Easy for them to be loving when inside, you’ve got yourself a captive audience. Back out in the world, it’s often a very different story.

@swandfriends Keep in mind they also have lots of time to focus affection on you,but as was mentioned above, not so much when dealing with parole, job seeking and the other whirlwind of chores we face in this world. He will also be shocked at how much the world has changed since he went away. It's not an easy transition from the prison routine. Continue to offer support if you truly care about him, because that can really mean a lot when yer locked up,but be clear that your wellbeing and happiness is a priority.

Keep weighing your options,no need to rush, and be glad you have the liberty to make a choice.
If your heart-throb is doing another decade flat then there are many, many things which could happen to knock things off-kilter with you two and I hope that you realize that before committing too much of an emotional investment. I also hope you two have open and honest lines of communication.
In my experience this is not always the case with inmates, they can be very skilled at playing various levels of games. Keep in mind that he's doing the time because of his choices, but you're not. Good luck.

So your choice is a nice guy who's sweet on you and available vs. a criminal who is in prison for 10 more years and who will probably take all your retirement savings when he gets out. Seriously, you're struggling with this???
You should forget the prison idea because once he is released he might not want a relationship with you. The new guy you need to wait on to truly get to know him. Time is of the essence

Ummmm... isn't a week a little soon too determine or assume he'll stay sweet and nice?.. Most people are on their best behavior for quite some time.
