@Geagle If one reads some of the works written by Christopher Hitchens (RIP) and Sam Harris you would undoubtedly find some support for your opinion.
While their viewpoints are rational I sometimes wonder about the outcome of summarily dismissing the followers of a religious faith?
People who are "believers" find benefits in adhering to the irrational .... and I don't think you are going to change these beliefs through contempt.
Unfortunately, for you, Geagle, many of these people occupy positions of political and cultural authority.
So this leaves us with some choices. Do we just outright ridicule the "faith" followers and create entrenched divisions between 'us' and 'them'? Or, can we follow a path of discourse that hopefully can ameliorate the more destructive outcomes of religious tenets with a greater tolerance for diversity?
@Nonexistant; Not necessarily. Sure there are a lot of religious people that are normal everyday people. But look at what's going on in the Middle East, and hatred towards people just based on their sexuality. This is mainly caused by religion.
