@bugeye when you do a little research you'll find that there were bouts of famine within various cultures. The famine that exists today is everyday/continual for an estimated 350 million people.

And yes there have always been cultures especially in Asia and Europe that had skirmishes and wars. Wars will increase and be more intense/deadly - as it can be since the atomic age began. Mainly focused on Jerusalem and the wars that will surround it (on every side) - that has not occurred since Jerusalem/Israel became a nation again in 1966.
