Religion is the greatest scam

Religion is the world’s oldest, richest, most elaborate and, by far, the most successful scam ever perpetrated.

It is the work of very wealthy organizations dedicated to continuing their acquisition of tax-free assets, to support millions of dependent employees, and to maintain a show of impeccable respectability. For these purposes, theologians are forever trying to fine-tune their basically ridiculous doctrines to force them to seemingly make some kind of sense.

Just one example: The words “above” and “below” used to be the normal synonyms for heaven and hell. Everybody knew automatically that heaven was located in the sky, and hell was underground. But in modern times we now know the limits of the Earth’s atmosphere, and that there is nothing beyond it but empty space; we also know what lies below the Earth’s crust. So the theologians can no longer speak of a god or angels or deceased loved ones “looking down,” and they can’t picture bad people writhing around in molten lava. So they are taking pains to deny and redefine these physical locations — and finding it difficult to do so.

Although no one can say anymore exactly where the ghosts go, religious shills still try to maintain the basic concept, to perpetuate the scam.

They know that this scam is best instilled in its victims from their early childhood, to present them with a make-believe parental authority figure that will override and outlive real parents. They seek to impose a system of daily and seasonal reminders and habitual connections to every important occasion in life: birth, maturity, marriage, death. They know that when such habits are fully instilled, the victims are hesitant to criticize them and will go to great lengths to continue believing that, after death, they will be able to see without eyes, hear without ears, feel without nerves, think without a brain — and that if they behave they will be able to subject this ongoing consciousness to a transcendent happiness.

The flip side, however, is the most sadistic threat ever conceived: eternal torture that can somehow be felt by those nonexistent nerves — a threat so severe as to terrify the gullible into compliance with all the money-making demands imposed on them. They are targets of the world’s most successful scam, which charges high prices for its promised nonproduct that never has to be delivered because it consists of nothing but hot air.

Making promises that you never have to fulfill, brainwashing the marks so they never rebel, earning huge sums on false pretenses that you never have to justify, and keeping this scam operational for many centuries in many nations: How could it be any more successful?

We are still being exposed to religion as part of our daily language and seasonal calendar. It is a shamelessly overt kind of scam that those of us who can perceive its falseness are still expected to tolerate. So we are being taught mythology in the guise of history, avarice masquerading as benevolence, and lies masquerading as truth.

The downside, of course, is that over the centuries religion has developed truly evil and destructive ways of maintaining itself against rivals, unbelievers or scientific facts. It has instituted wars, inquisitions, holocausts and hideous oppressions. It has denied observable truths and set itself against scientific knowledge of our world. Its only answer to the doubters is still “you must have faith” because it is evil to ask questions. The real evil is that questions that can’t be reasonably answered must never be spoken or heard.

Secular leaders and politicians have always gone along, either because they are suitably brainwashed themselves, or because they dare not oppose that much money and influence. Historically, under the rule long laid down in Europe by the Roman Catholic organization, every Church member was supposed to contribute a mandatory 10 percent of personal earnings to the Church. Today, whatever U.S. Catholics decide to donate to the Church, it never needs to pay any taxes to support the government-funded infrastructure on which it freely feeds.

Perhaps we can hope that in a more scientifically enlightened future the world will fully turn against this scam and give humanity a more rational and peaceful world without any threatening All-Father to terrify people or any absurdly questionable hopes to close their minds. But that is still far off. Let us do what we can in our own lifetimes to bring it a little bit closer.

Religion is a concept created by humans so it is naturally 'monetised' as a commercial business.

God is a concept created by humans to embody everything humans do not understand (yet) through scientific study and advancement.

Bible is a concept created by humans to collate a collection of fantasies that are put forward as 'proof' of the existence of God and validation of the concept of so-called Christian religion.

@zonavar68 Why do you only mention the Bible and Christianity? What about other religions?

Apparently, there are around 4000 religions in the world.

@SW-User Christianity is the most monetised and bigoted 'brand' of religion, and there are a LOT of 'strands' that claim to fall under the 'Christianity' banner.
@SW-User christian televangelists are among the most greedy, living in megamansions while their followers financially struggle from month to month because of how much they give to those grifters.

@NativePortlander1970 Mormons are classics at this - just look at things like the SOTY Family and Tannerites videos targetting children to indoctrinate them into Mormon christianity on Youtube.

@zonavar68 Why is it bigoted?

@NativePortlander1970 Does this mean that the religion itself, or its teachings, are evil?

The reason Christianity is subject to much scrutiny is that it is widely known in predominantly White-European countries, including the U.S (peoples with European origin), and it is lacking in defense.

It has suffered the most in the advent of secularism and progressivism.

I do not doubt that there are many seeking to exploit and capitalize, but if we are going to criticize one religion, we may as well criticize every religion.
@SW-User Christianity as it has been commonly taught in the past 1,800 years is not the same teachings as believed to be taught by a wandering Rabbi in the early first century AD. Yes, the four four books of the new testament do give the account and teachings of this same Rabbi, that the church calls Jesus, but then halfway through the fifth book, some few years after the alleged pentecost and assention (spelling) a Sanhedrin prosecutor from Spain had a so called conversion and turned it into his own religion. Watch or listen to any tv or radio sermon, or even a live one in any church, you will notice that they quote paul on average of twenty times more than they will Jesus and his own disciples, combined.

However I do criticize every religion regarless of what it is, whether Abrahamic, Buddhist, Hindu, etc., they're all designed to subjugate and control their followers to their wills.

@NativePortlander1970 Saul was living in Turkey.

I do not think he turned it into his own religion. He said that he saw Jesus appear to him near Damascus, and that is how he started preaching the message. Prior to this, he had rejected Jesus, and went to lengths to subdue belief in him.

In those days, there was no "conversion" because the primary followers were still Jews. It became his effort to deliver Jesus to non-Jews, and that was it. They were told they did not have to follow Jewish laws and customs, due to being non-Jewish, or gentiles, and therefore not sharing the covenant. It was realized it would be difficult to get them to, as well.

There was still a belief and expectation that the Jewish believers in Jesus would practice the Jewish laws, and that they not be hypocrites or partially observant. In other words, there is no point in following one law, if you are not correctly following another law. Also, you have to truly believe.

Religion, in many ways, has brought much good to the world. The reason that western culture has deteriorated is widespread secular education in schools and universities, and a rejection of purpose and meaning that goes beyond the individual and our clear limitations. Secularism has drastically failed the West.
@SW-User First of all, "paul" was the ONLY ONE "blinded" by the "bright light" during his "vision", physically impossible, they all would have been blinded, this sounds like collusion Acts 9. Second, it was commanded not to bring the message to the gentiles Matthew 10: 5. Third, jesus told his followers to obey the laws and commands of Moses and the Prophets Matthew 5: 17, yet paul preached to follow a new covenant 2 Corinthians 3. Fourth, relifion has in fact brought more bloodshed, genocide, and wars, than peace, jesus said he did not come to bring peace, but a sword Matthew 10: 34-36.

@NativePortlander1970 Why do you think that? If this is from God, and the purpose is to show Jesus to Saul and make him become a believer in Jesus, why would his companions also be blinded?

It does say they heard sound, though.

You say it is "physically impossible", but we are talking about biblical events, not what is ordinarily possible.

I think the commandment, or at least its implication, was to go to Jews first. This is because he was supposed to be, or at least thought himself to be, the Messiah. Given this, why would he choose non-Jews to be the first peoples to receive this message and believe in him? Moreover, the emphasis on teaching non-Jews, which came later, also seems to be a natural consequence of Judaism's rejection of Jesus. He was rejected, and so the message came to be one that was primarily given to, and received by, non-Jews. This, in part, is why Christianity has become separate from Judaism.

Jesus did tell his followers to obey the laws and commandments from God, and Saul was observant of them. It was his aim to deliver Jesus to non-Jews, and the covenant and Mitzvot were never meant for non-Jews. Non-Jews, however, were still people, and God still wanted to save them. If we go back to Adam and Eve, before God chose us, we can see that he created humanity, and that his covenant had not yet been received by anyone in humanity. God chose to give this humanity free will, presumably because he does not want to be a dictator, and humanity (specifically: Adam and Eve) decided to use their free will to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which he had expressly told them not to eat from. As a consequence, they discovered evil, and then knew evil. Humanity would go on knowing evil, and to a large extent still does know evil. God chose a people among this humanity, and made a covenant with them. Abraham was a descendant of Adam, but there was still no "Jew" or covenant, until it was given to Abraham. We would have descended from Shem, the son of Noah. By that point, it is true that people had formed various nations, tribes, and cultures. This covenant is sacred and special, and God is sacred and special. There are, though, still other humans who were created in his image, and have not come to know God, or have lost God, and who, in his eyes, need to come to him.

As for the "new covenant", I need to think more about this. It does say in Jeremiah 31 that there will be a "new covenant." I do not interpret this as meaning the covenant between Abraham and God as becoming void, but rather an evolving of the existing covenant. It is inarguable that God is faithful to the covenant, and that he will not betray it. Jews, have betrayed it at times. Yet, it is still our covenant, and it cannot be departed from.

People, and you could say, their sins, have brought wars. Religion, which is itself not a conscious entity, would need a human mind to write or interpret it in such a way as to use it for war. In the past, it was used for conquering nations, or for taking back nations and territories. Human minds were doing this, not "religion." That said, some religions are more worthy than others, and some are innately wrong or dangerous.

Does bringing the sword not predict that people will become separated by their belief in Jesus? Is this not what happened? I think this is what he may have meant.

Jeremiah, who told us about the new covenant, was also persecuted and killed. He died for God. Unlike Jesus, he was later accepted by Jews, but was still rejected and murdered before that.
@SW-User Because "paul" deviated from the messages Jesus taught. After Judas Iscariot hung himself, the disciples drew lots for his replacement, paul didn't care, he barged himself into the fold. Paul is a false disciple.

@NativePortlander1970 There are no true disciples as religion is a fake man-made concept.
@zonavar68 Regardless of whether religion is a manmade construct or not, there are leaders, and there are followers, which are considered disciples. Just because you believe that way doesn't make it truth.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@NativePortlander1970 And facts don't care if you don't like them - facts stand alone and do not require 'faith' to make them valid.
