Interfaith Dialogue

I wish there was a section here for interfaith dialogue. Obviously many are not in favour of dialogue. On a Buddhist forum I was told where to put my "inter-religious bullshit", and obviously a certain kind of Christian will say that there can be no dialogue with error (i.e. anything at all they disagree with.......😀)

But in many ways it is where my heart is. Going in deeply enough, it can even help me see the true "marrow" beneath all the various creeds, doctrines, beliefs - reach the heart. The heart is pure gift and never our own. Grace.

A bit of dialogue. I have often said that "all Reality is revelation". This can be derived from the prologue to St John's Gospel :-

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

All things were made by Him, and that life was the light of all mankind. No exclusions as such. And in translations in other tongues, the "Word" is "Tao" or perhaps some other all encompassing word.

As I see it, we have to recognise this total revelation of the one Source, a source that is ineffable in and of itself. Touch base as it were. Having done so, then we can enter the world of diversification, finding our own path, time and place, according to our unique human life.

If "revelation" is confined to just one book, or anything else, before we touch base, then as I see it we go wrong. It is the source of all conflict, of Inquisitions, war and bigotry - however disguised as "love".

Eckhart:- "They do Him wrong who see God in only one way - they end with the way, not God."

Unfortunately, some will still insist that Jesus is the "only way".

Any who see any of this as a "falling away" from "what has always been taught and believed" (i.e. their own particular beliefs....😀) should really take a refresher course in Church history, read some of the early Church Fathers. Alas, some will simply cry "apostates" and then go back to sleep.

A belief in magic is the security blanket. Take it away and what’s left Be it that swami pusher or the Norse sagas, it’s just made up stories. None of these long rants are useful for human progress. If they’re really think vital information is being spread, this place has the least audience. An education of science, math, and critical thinking is what moves humanity forward. Like it or not, we’re all children of the Enlightenment and there is no going back. That toothpaste is out of the tube forever.

"Isaac Asimov's remark about the infantilism of pseudoscience is just as applicable to religion: 'Inspect every piece of pseudoscience and you will find a security blanket, a thumb to suck, a skirt to hold.' It is astonishing, moreover, how many people are unable to understand that 'X is comforting' does not imply 'X is true"

@Penny The point is absolutely nothing in history has been accomplished by magic. Zero.

Science is methodology, not a belief.

@BlueSkyKing Carl Jung and Joseph Campell have both found such "made up stories" very useful for understanding thee human condition.

I don't really go for "progress" as a concept relating to the human condition. Yes, technological progress is evident, but even that is sometimes more change than any real progress or step forward.

Those old stories hold a great deal of wisdom. More so, in my opinion, than the "rationality" of the so called "enlightenment".

@BlueSkyKing Also, science has nothing to do with meaning

Wait about six months. After you have built up enough of your reputation score. Then create your own group.

There's is an unknown, unmentioned amount of reputation needed to create your own group. Until you have built up enough you won't be able to see any type of group creation buttons on any of the groups.

Its about wanting to keep ones head in the sand or not. Im very much interested in interfaith dislogue. I can see the universal human truths all of them describe. Common ground and less violence (extreme disagreenent) would be better. We can identify commonalities instead they'd rather be right and u wrong. I said no u said nope really it meant never. all have the same message different language different name. Largely identical. But they cant agree on anything. They have the exact same 10 commandments handed to them by the same person/one god.
Wtf this is latin. I was taught english. Both being a translation from Aramaic and greek. They dont even know what they are saying. It becomes gibberish arument pretty quick. Dontchaknow?
