Who was it that said Religion is the opiate of the people.

SW-User
@strictshorts Karl and he was right

SW-User
on this we most certainly agree!
Spirits can't burn up or die. They are eternal. God told us in His Word, how to prepare for heaven. No one has to miss it. I see salvation is greatly misunderstood on this site.

I do seem to argue with a lot of religious believers who think like little kids, I always thought it was strange. Just on any subject I'll notice first that they're very religious and then they are anti vaxxers, anti gay etc. etc. I'll try to logic or reason with them about various subjects but debating them is like trying to debate like... maybe a 13 year old child I guess?
I did think it was strange. Just the logic and the mindset being very childish in such a way that it's legit harder to argue with them because of it.
Like you know how children reason and talk? That's sort of like what it feels like. When children just all of a sudden make up things on the spot but they're being quite silly and can say some silly stuff. With kids, you usually just say something silly back but with adults who are like that, it's more serious.

There are, after all, atheists who say they wish the fable were true but are unable to suspend the requisite disbelief, or who have relinquished belief only with regret. To this I reply: who wishes that there was a permanent, unalterable celestial despotism that subjected us to continual surveillance and could convict us of thought-crime, and who regarded us as its private property even after we died? How happy we ought to be, at the reflection that there exists not a shred of respectable evidence to support such a horrible hypothesis.”

One biased side sacrifices reasonableness.
The other biased side sacrifices desirability.
Each sacrifice leads to a bad state of mind.
And each side has failed to conceive truth.

I don't suffer from any anxiety because i believe in Hell.. I am a Christian therefore i am saved from hell.. So becoming a Christian removes anxiety..

@Ferise1
Yes... Why would you assume that the Laws of nature that is in the confines of this universe has any influence upon The eternal lake of fire and heaven which are not in this universe realm?
I am amazed that you believe the concept of hell and the eternal lake of fire is less then 55 years old.. That's weird... No i came upon the concept of Hell and the Eternal lake of fire when i read the Bible..
@Adstar do you think the laws of nature are suspended in hell? Like you can burn forever or suffer forever and not get used to it after a while?

@Adstar you made up the idea of hell in the first place

How about nontheistic religions?
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@CopperCicada which non-theistic religions?
CopperCicada · M
@Ferise1 Some Buddhist presentations have the concept of an eternal hell. Not all such hells are eternal hells, it is a hell associated with a particular psychology that is cut off from ones fundamental goodness.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@CopperCicada its not eternal tho

Ya, whatever soothes a possibly guilty conscience is preferred, it’s more comforting

depends on the religion I suppose because I dont suffer from any anxiety

SW-User
@Torsten I think this post is refering to abrahamic religions cause hell was mentioned. Buddhism, paganism... do lead to a more peaceful mind I imagine
Torsten · 36-40, M
@SW-User I must have missed the hell part.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
That only applies to religions that dont allow their followers to reinterpret the word of their creator .

SW-User
Yeah, no
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@SW-User what do you mean?

SW-User
@Ferise1 it means that I disagree
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@SW-User so hell is supernatural and you’ll be punished forever and never get used to it?
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
Christianity and religion are not synonyms.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow yeah whatever idiot
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@Ferise1 And this is the level of thinking we are dealing with. Might want to understand the basic concepts before insulting people.

There are far more cases of secularists and Atheists who commit suicide per year.

@Darksideinthenight2 l am smart enough to understand that stop being unnecessarily mean.
I feel myself pulled into hell this has nothing to do with choice.
