How do you calm yourself down?

QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
It depends on the reason why I’m not calm, but deep breathing, distraction, or focusing on something (for me, the seconds display on my digital clock) seems to help in general.

If I'm overwhelmed or tired - A nap and or anxiety meds.

If I'm restless -DIY projects, social media, online karaoke, phone games or watching a movie /show or go for a walk or bike ride.

If I'm feeling like the house is a mess -Organize /clean /declutter

If I feel horny - I tell my partner I need his penis inside me NOW

If I'm sad - I vent to a friend, I listen to music.

If I don't know what to do but haven't showered I shower. Eat. Drink coffee. Do the basics and go from there.

I often will lie in my darkened bedroom and try to shut out as much sensory input as possible if I have overload.
Purplerain78 · 41-45, F

@Misspotat Sometimes, hitting does not resolve the problem. If my PTSD gets away from me, I will be physically ill to my stomach and bowels for weeks. It's worth trying to avoid.
WhatLifeIsFor · 41-45, M

Lorazepam twice a day, my anxiety over my terminal cardiopulmonary diease has gotten to the point where incense and meditation while listening to ambient sounds no longer works.
