I Have a Bedtime

My parents are kind of strict and over- protective, and my mom thinks that I need 10 solid hours of sleep, so I generally go to bed at around nine every night. I start getting ready about an hour earlier and have some quiet time to wind down before bed. It’s part of a whole process my mom calls sleep hygiene. It is frustrating at times, but I suppose it’s for the best.

Bedtime was a huge thing with my mom. She kept enforcing it through my teen years. Then I went away to college for a year, lived in a dorm and stayed up late. Then I transferred back home and moved back in with my mother. To my shock I still had a bedtime. "If you live under my roof you follow my rules" she said often. So I had a bedtime until I moved out for good at age 21.
