what exactly is the right mind state while meditation?

i am new to meditation and i read alot about it in forums and articles but i am confused, some people say it is thinking in nothing "nobody thinks in nothing", some say it is focusing on one thing like breath or any one thing and not let your mind think in another thing, some say you shouldn't resist thoughts, instead it is part of the correct meditation to observe your thoughts without judging them and let them go

also i found them talking about consciousness and awareness i really couldn't understands these two in the context!

can someone tell me the right concept of meditation?

Ugh....I've tried meditating for YEARS and still feel I'm fucking it up .

But....
I did listen to a podcast recently on it and discovered this :

People often have one of two problems when meditating -
1: their body seems to get loud . They notice their breathing , their blood flow , their thoughts, their hair itches 馃槄 ...their body won't shut up.

OR....

2: the world around them becomes loud . You hear the breeze, the ticking of the clock , the grass blades moving , the high pitch whine of the TV on standby ....the world won't shut up .

So the concept is - concentrate on the opposite of what your mind is drawn to .

If the world is loud .... concentrate on your breathing .
If your body is loud, concentrate on the ticking of the clock or the light on an object or the sound of the wind .

Meditating is apparently different for everybody - there is no "right" way for all . It's more about the process than any ",ideal" .
Mediation is a practice of mind calm , not some bliss centred ideal . (Although it is possible )

And someone once told me, it's not about getting your mind to go blank, it's about letting those thoughts that come into it, go .
It's about freeing your mind to let unconscious thoughts enter , to accept , and then release.

At least that what I've been told 馃し

you said you are doing it for years, do you feel any gain from it?
