I didn't waste my time on someone...I just lost my best friend.

When I retired I lost contact with all my friends. I miss her the most because she was one of the few that I didn't feel like an awkward geek around (the boy/girl thing aside). I could actually look her in the eye, which never happens. I may never have that again, but I really need someone to talk to now and then. That is why I'm on here.If that happens good deal, if not then I'm out nothing....

I'm sorry you lost your best friend. Are you unable to track her down on social media? Maybe you could send her a message from another platform like Facebook or Instagram if she's on there.

@ChampagneOnIce None of that. I'm not on social media to begin with, I am reaching with this platform. I realize that our friendship has run it's course, only because of my retirement and the disconnection from that, and I get that. I am so afraid of the thought that I may never have that kind of closeness again.

@paulisretired Connections are difficult to begin with, I think, and can be harder as we get older. Congratulations on your retirement, though, especially being younger than the typical retirement age!

What hobbies and interests do you have? In my experience, I've made good friends by pursuing things I enjoy.

@ChampagneOnIce Thank you. I am lucky to have worked for the state, however stressful!!, which is why I could take a pension so early. Connections with people have always been difficult and haven't gotten much easier with age. I am who I am. I will never work that job again but I am a damn good cook if I do say so myself. lol

@paulisretired Being a good cook is an accomplishment. :) Do you enjoy it? I'm a good cook, but I don't really enjoy it. 😄
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@ChampagneOnIce I do enjoy cooking at home. It's been YEARS since I have baked or decorated a cake...that has become a chore for me.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@paulisretired Yeah, baking is a whole other challenge. I'm a better cook because baking requires more precision than I usually want to deal with, but I do make great cinnamon rolls.
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@ChampagneOnIce Oh yeah, the preciseness in baking is crucial. My grandmother along with all the old times could cook without recipes and make the same thing a little bit different each time. Do with what you got and make it work...

@paulisretired Cooking without recipes is a definite talent. We have a few cookbooks put together by our families of recipes handed down through the generations. They're not all my cup of tea, but I like that we have them.

@ChampagneOnIce I have some Amish and Mennonite cookbooks that make go WOW. but they do work.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@paulisretired Interesting and kind of cool :)

@ChampagneOnIce The old timers, so to speak, lived and learned. They found a way to make things work.
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@ChampagneOnIce I ran into her yesterday and we had a good chat about the rumors that I had fallen for her and I had my say. She really is a good friend. I still have a hard time convincing people that men and women can be friends and nothing more. I feel better now.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@paulisretired I’m glad you had a good encounter with her.
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@ChampagneOnIce Thanks, and thank you for the chat. I do much better conversing this way then in person and groups. I just don't have the chance to get on the computer or on here much.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@paulisretired I understand. Some days I have more time to be here than others. I mostly just reply to messages and comments.
paulisretired · 51-55, M
@ChampagneOnIce Yeah, it seems to be kinda that way for me. I'm busier now than when I was working 60 hours a week with the OT. I have a honey-do list that bends that imagination LOL
