It depends. Are these people into booze and night clubs or are they into books and philosophy?
JustNik · 51-55, F
Yes. I had as many male friends as female prior to marriage and often found the males easier to be around. They were always more straightforward. I could definitely see the other two lanes, though. The ones who were only friendly while there might be a hope for more and the ones who couldn’t see you if they didn’t want you. Still, pretty straightforward there as well. lol
katydidnt · 61-69, F
Oh, I do hope almost everyone answers Yes to this question. Just because half the population includes men with whom I and my wedding vows might tumble is no reason to shut out the whole lot. So irrational--depriving myself of another’s worldview, another awakening to additional aspects of a shared interest, reasons I should reconsider my own positions, and a friendship, unrealized.
Sojournersoul · M
@katydidnt Yes
Justafantasy · M
Yes/no. It takes the right people. I've got female friends I don't see often that I've known for years, some are attractive some aren't. All 100% platonic. Do we hang out regularly? No, I still consider them friends though
Stephie · 22-25, F
It is indeed possible. As long as you set the record straight and let those men (or women) know that there will be no hanky panky, not now and not in the future, then there is absolutely no problem.
As soon as the one or the other is not playing the game anymore, it is time to sever that friendship. I make it clear from the start and until now, it works fine.
You just have to set boundaries and not tolerate any deviation from them.

WandererTony · 56-60, M
Yes they can. I had one in my teens. It lasted for 2 decades. I still cherish those memories. The best friendship I ever had perhaps.
FreeSpirit1 · F
I do, But I'm not married, having a Husband might make it....difficult
TexChik · F
Unfortunately, the majority of married people have precisely that after the kids are a few years old. I think it would be difficult if they were both hetero.
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
I can't say that it's ever worked out for me. They always wanted more, then its ended up in some kinda stalker situation.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
Of course! But....partners are not always happy with those type of friendships sadly.
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@RubySoo Indeed not. The insecurities come creeping in.
tobynshorty · 51-55, F
Oh yes! My best friend and I are only platonic and it can never be anything more.
WindTherapy · 56-60, M
Can they? Yes. Does it happen often? I don't know, but I suspect it is somewhat rare. I think it takes two people in the exact same mindset to pull it off.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Absolutely.
Feuerstern · 51-55, M
From the male perspective? No. Man do not enjoy being banished to the "Friend zone"
From the female perspective? Yes
From the female perspective? Yes
itsok · 31-35, F

Online relationships are platonic and there are many with online relationships for long and most never get to meet in life...
Isaabella · 26-30, F
Yes I think so
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@Arantxa yes, just friends
QCDog2659 · 61-69, M
It is very possible.
I had one for almost ten years.
I had one for almost ten years.
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@QCDog2659 I have had one going on 30 years .... and for some reason people have a hard time understanding it.
QCDog2659 · 61-69, M
@skmokisses Well...I have found, in my life, that everybody has something they do not understand...and I can't drive myself crazy trying to change that.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
Yes,they can.
Boundaries , expectactions if any have to be set, upfront.

@scorpiolovedeep
Thats a given , because we are talking about A platonic relationship .. No .
I don't have to speak boundaries , because it's just understood . If life happens ,, it happens for a reason , my friendships aren't based around boundaries but openness and understanding . .
Creating unnecessary boundaries ,just creates the need to break them .

well i think so but it is hard when the other party has other ideas.
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@akindheart Agreed, it has to be mutual ...otherwise it won't work.
JackOatMon · 46-50, M
I had a couple with coworkers.
carpediem · 61-69, M

Strongtea · 22-25, M

DaddyThomas · 46-50, MVIP
Yeah I’ve many platonic relationships with women
Maturebate · 70-79, M
Of course they can. Think work colleagues, flat mates, ,etc. Sex does not have to be the only thing that defines a MF relationship.
mindstruggle · F
Yea. 🙂
BobbyMoeven · 100+, M
Yup ..
SinlessOnslaught · M
If they're both capable of caring about the person and not the attraction, yes.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I guess, I really don`t know.

Many married men will tell you it's absolutely possible, just ask their wife
Thrust · 56-60, M
Yes. It helps if at least one is married. Then platonic is your only choice
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
I think it is possible, but it is difficult to remain platonic.
Man48 · 46-50, M
Yes Ofcourse, happens all around
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
Yes of course. Why not?
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Yes. People who don't think it's possible usually are just imposing their own limitations on others
Greenry · 46-50, M
They can if they weren’t married. It gets complicated otherwise
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
Sure. Of course. It happens all the time.
GerOttman · 61-69, M

Of course they can - if that’s what both want.
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
Obviously they can. Not everyone can manage it, but it's definitely possible.
Definitely the holy father and the nuns do all the time
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Usually? Nope. Only if there is no sexual attraction.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@Kuronekko Likewise! One of my detractors on here derisively calls me a wizard. I soon aspire to go to Hogwarts near you to learn the Enochian Mysteries of Mr. John Dee!
