Loss of friends

I have recently lost 3 good friends due to who I voted for. I’ve known these 3 ladies for 18 years and we were very close. I can’t tell you how shocked I was, and sad. They have known for years who o supported, but this year they decided to cut ties with me bc their candidate lost. Anyone else gone through this?

Yes. It is the way of society now. Sad but true. People on both sides are guilty of this. A person he or she had known for years and cherished was suddenly tossed aside once discovering who got their vote. It shows how polarized we are as a nation. Also shows how fickle people have become. There are many assumptions, misconceptions, and blanket judgments when someone does this. It happened to me too. I also had someone block and delete me from fb when we disagreed about mass shootings.

@NocturnalTide I hate to assume based on one single comment people write, but you make it very difficult to see what your particular leanings are. You don't have any political posts, and you keep your comments locked up. So I have to ask.

What do you mean both sides?

@LordShadowfire Republicans and Democrats. I just meant both major parties. I've known people who severed friendships, partnerships, working relationships, casual contact over how the person voted. Long term and short-term contacts.

@NocturnalTide Yeah, well, coming from the perspective of somebody who's been called a terrorist by the Republican Party, and is now facing November without food stamps, the two parties are not as identical as some people think. I never saw Democrats declare war on Portland.

@LordShadowfire My post wasn't to say the parties are identical Point was despite many differences, people are now so quick to find others unworthy of any contact, once they discover political leanings. ,If someone was a friend, political stance didn't matter. Now, if they disagree, the friendship no longer matters.

@NocturnalTide I understand. I've seen it happen many times. For myself, it becomes an important issue, but not necessarily worth ending a friendship over, depending on how long I've been friends with the person. But really, finding out somebody sided with the party that is currently trying its hardest to stamp out leftism, liberalism, and even moderate conservatism, is kind of a red flag.
