How come you're not married with kids yet?

I do have a partner who I've been with for years. We aren't married because we never really sat down and discussed it in depth and I hold a fear over the cost of divorce in case things don't work out. No kids because well I am gay for starters and with my mental health issues it's a bad idea and my partner isn't sure he would be a great parent either
