Do men still use pick up lines?

I think they are cringey. Before I was married guys would try them on me. I chuckled at maybe a few, but most were just so stupid. Is that still a thing in 2021? If it is, I say to the guys just be yourself. It'll increase your chances of getting that "yes".

I never used one, for the reason you describe. Why would a woman respond positively to what she knew was a "set" line that I might have used on anyone?

Although, one time, after I was married, I was in a motel lobby, and a bachelorette party was going on. Women had paired up on a "scavenger hunt", and one thing they were searching for was pickup lines. So two women came up to me and asked me what pickup lines I had.

I told them, "I'm kind of a nerd, so I don't have any pickup lines." They stared at each other, and one said, "What a great pickup line!"

Who knew? 🤷‍♂️

@DrWatson That's a sweet story, I like that!
LarrysReflections · 61-69, M
I never did and still don't. Prefer just a straightforward introduction followed with honest conversation.

If that doesn't work then that's fine. Or if the conversation dies, then politely thank her for her time and move on.

To me, pick up lines are either cheesy or cheap. Not my style.
SW-User
@LarrysReflections See? That's how the approach should be. Just straightforward and honest.
LarrysReflections · 61-69, M
@SW-User I figure women want to be treated like intelligent human beings, not just some hot object.
SW-User
@LarrysReflections Yes we do! Thank you for being a gentleman.
Ontheroad · M
I've never used one except as a joke, but I've known soem men who do use them knowing (or at least thinking) that if they use them enough, someone would fall for it.
Ontheroad · M
@CookieCrumbs I've shot one or two of them out just as a joke (knew the woman) and they nearly died laughing! I just can't imagine using one - feels so insulting to the woman.
@Ontheroad
There are lines that would make you go —- 🙄 “really? That’s the best you can come up with?”
Ontheroad · M
@CookieCrumbs actually, at least from my perspective, 99.99% of them fall into that category. I'm always thinking exactly that... "really? That's all you can come up with?" totally agree with you. A guy would be better off to just keep his mouth shut and work on a bit of sincerity... or just say nothing at all.

No apart from who makes your walking stick

@Nimbus might work on the low self esteem ones

I could never pull off a pick up line. Always felt ridiculous and artificial. Making eye contact and then going over and just starting a conversation with hello. If that doesn't work than she wasn't my type anyway. I have never been a pick up artist. With enough eye contact and a few smiles more often then not we would gravitate toward each other over the course of the evening if she was interested.
Yeah. I had one try that on me a few weeks ago. It fell pretty flat too.
PhaqueYou · M
Never had.

No reason.

Unless it's a nearby handpuppet.
🤔

Saaay, my tuckett? Yr hand?! Lets....

Talk to the (puppet) hand.
(That guy isn't me... his name is "smithson" he makes these things.... etsy.

Ok... enough.

Sings. "I wanna hold your hand....puppet!"

😙😚🤪

@SW-User not worried.

Just happy my kids are safe & feeling silly today.

(It's an old widowers thing.... )

Anyways ------>

Happy Friday the 12th.!.
SW-User
@PhaqueYou Bro, what the hell???
Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
I know here it’s usually “what turns you on?”, “hello dear” and. “Hi”. None of them do it for me.
SW-User
@Keepitsimple I get those a lot in my inbox lol
Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
@SW-User Me too. I delete them.
SW-User
CookieCrumbs · F
I’ve heard a few that I’d really laugh about up to this day. 😁 🤦‍♀️

I heard someone say, unironically, "I'm warm to your form"

😄
exexec · 70-79, C
I never have. My wife used to be hit on by men when she was out alone or with her office group. She tried to be nice in rejecting them, but she tried to remember the best lines to tell me when she got home. None of them worked.
SW-User
@exexec Of course they didn't lol
DragonFruit · 70-79, M
Some men still use pickup lines, and I don't think that's going to change any time soon.
SW-User
@DragonFruit I thought men were supposed to be all about getting straight to the point and not beating around the bush....if your intent is to ask a woman out, I would say just do it. Its better to just be yourself than to use a cringey opening line.
DragonFruit · 70-79, M
@SW-User It's nervous energy...not knowing what to say, so they try being witty.
I mean, I have a few times but they rarely ever work.
SW-User
@GohantheThird My point exactly! Lol
@SW-User well, usually I'm the one with the point but surem
iamelijah · 26-30, M
They are still and it gets norm here. It's getting annoyed actually but the ladies like that. Idk why. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
SW-User
@iamelijah I guess I'm in the minority of women that don't like them. Men are genuinely funny when they are just being themselves, trying to be slick or cool with a pick up line is not funny.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
(@GirlPowah)What do you like about me
SW-User
I think they use pick up DMs now.
SW-User
@SW-User That might actually be worse. It opens up the door to a flood of messages that are just "Hey" or "Hi". What am I supposed to do with that? Lol
496sbc · 41-45, M
Yes sometimes i do or try
Catzgano · 31-35, F
Yes it’s still a thing lol
SW-User
@Catzgano Do you get a lot?
JackJames · M
I haven’t in a long time.
Better than simping even if some of them are cringy. Why don't women try harder? I don't hear any guys saying why do women think being dressed up for a substitute to having a personality? Or why do women just expect everything to come to them? And I mean when have you seen a single woman just be herself? Not one that is popular among other women lol.
Fluffybull · F
@TheWhippersnapper You're really an unpleasant misogynist, aren't you?
@Fluffybull Hahahahaha! No, I'm not an unpleasant misogynist.. I'm an unpleasant misanthrope
Sassygirl42 · 51-55, F
Yes they do.

What’s a girl like you doing on a site like this?
SW-User
@DownTheStreet🤣🤣🤣
Tom47 · M
hey baby did it hurt when you fell from heaven? 😉
Havesomefun2 · 61-69, M
Yeah. Let me pick you of the ground before your sick all over yourself
theres only a few that still work...... would you help me spend all this money...... would you like to go on a boat ride...... can you help me lift my 12 inch cock...... most of the other ones are instant failure. LOL
SW-User
@ReptilianFromPlanetCrush None of these would work for me lol
@SW-User nothing is ever 100 percent. LOL
SW-User
@ReptilianFromPlanetCrush No, very true.
bugeye · 31-35, F
personally i like the pick up lines. most are boring sure but there's some funny/creative ones out there. far better than:

him - hi
me - hiyas
him - *sends dick pic*
caesar7 · 61-69, M
...or what sign are you born under..lol
SW-User
@caesar7 If I were under a sign I imagine it would have said something like "OB/GYN" probably.
PhaqueYou · M
@caesar7 stop.... a drunk clipped it off at an 4 way......

Stop.

🤪🤪🤣
SW-User
Losercunts do yes.

Some use their dead aunts as pussy magnets and then later joke about people dying on movie sets. 👍
SW-User
@TheWhippersnapper Oh okay. I was wrong about what I saw then. thanks for putting me right on that. Thanks also for telling me what I'm talking about. Because I didn't know my own thoughts there and needed someone else who doesn't to clarify them for me, Much appreciated! ✌️
@SW-User I'm just saying I've never seen a guy say "Hey babe I have a dead aunt and a movie ticket with your name on it 😏"

That sounded more like the sympathy card which is "My aunt just passed away, I just feel so alone 😭"
SW-User
@TheWhippersnapper Okay well to each their own. No harm then. to me they are ultimately the same thing...just you see you've been around long enough you will sadly probably see that too.

And now for a non-sarcastic: Peace. ✌️

Thank you for being civil. Genuinely.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Yah they do

@swirlie My younger self can attest to this. Perhaps my older self on occasion. More so the younger.
SW-User
I don't.

If I ever were to, I'd be using one ironically. Trying to make them laugh at how stupid the line is
