If you are married, are you 'expected' to wear a wedding ring, or is there a law saying you have to, or some other reason?

Having never been married (or engaged to be married) I've never gone down that pathway of planning a wedding or buying symbols of commitment via marriage.

If a person is married, do they have to wear a wedding ring?

Is there any sort of law saying a married person has to wear a wedding ring?

Is there any sort of social convention that expects a married person to wear one?

If a married person chooses to not wear one, is that meant to be representation of something?

I haven't worn mine in at least 30 years. I learned the hard way that it was not safe. Jumping down off a machine riser and using my hand to slide down, mine was caught on a screw that was protruding and I was basically hanging there by my ring finger, but luckily the tips of my toes were on the ground. By the time I got back to the shop and was able to use a side cutters to cut the mangled ring off, my finger was the size of a bratwurst. I healed up and the ring was repaired but it is now tucked away in my sock drawer.
