How when you break up with someone are you gently or harsh

I am asking becasue I have had four girlfrineds total. One left me for someone else and was ..unpleaste to me afterwords. the second just left me without telling me. The third lied and left me and fourth ( who was the best) acatuly treated me like human and broke up with me in a claim and mature manner.
