I've been in this very scenario and it was a wreck. Dude wanted to keep talking so I kept ordering appetizers after appetizer just to make the time pass.
He got sort of scared though when the bill came. I paid the money (cash) and just left. I wasn't interested. Funny thing though is he followed me outside and wanted to hang out again... I told him I didn't think it was a good idea and that maybe he should work on things w his ex and walked away
