16 years old dating a 24 year old?

I am much older now..kinda 18, but a while ago when I was 16, I had dated a guy that was 24...Now it was all sweet and the relationship did last about a year. In the time we were dating, we recieved MANY rude comments. I would like to ask what everybody's opinion is on this. Is Age really a number???

16 is the age of consent for females in my country.
Some 16 Year olds are more mature, kind and pleasant natured than 40+ people.

24 is still witin the "youth" age bracket. If you were 18 and he 26, it's still only 8 years.

So long as you're not breaking any laws, are happy and safe with the person...that is all that matters.

People are always going to judge others.

16 is the age of consent so what we were doing wasn't illegal per say it's just some people's view were just clouded to think he was abusing me or something. No laws were broken and we didnt engage in sex.

@Michaela: I wouldn't think it was abuse or anything like that. I just find it odd. I don't understand why a 24 year old would want a relationship with a 16 year old. He's in a totally different phase in his life. Baffles me. :o

@ValoranHuntress: He in particular didn't care much. We had hung out a couple times at a party which is where we intially got atracted to each other. I was a bit hesitant as well due to the age but I later got comfortable with it. I definetly wasn't "weird" or "awkward". We both truly enjoyed ourselves and the time we spent togehter.
