What is better dating or courtship?

Dating can be seen as more casual and open-ended with intentions that may or may not end in a long term romantic relationship and varying levels of physical intimacy.

Courtship is more serious from the beginning. The intention of courtship is to see whether you want to marry your partner. It usually leads to engagement and marriage and often involves family input.

From your perspective which is better? I feel like courtship leads to more lasting relationships and marriage but that’s just my take.

oh definitely courtship.
There is way too much 'noise' in dating.
courtship is quieter... and you can get drawn into and lost in that silence.
it becomes... a kind of solace that you keep reliving in your head.
and even when the destination has been reached, you can still relive the journey.

I guess it depends on the end-goal. Marriage is not what everyone wants, aims for, or strives for. Most people are just happy to actually have a healthy, positive, mutually beneficial relationship without the frippery associated with proposals, engagements, weddings, etc.

Esp. outside of religious settings.
i just want to have fun in dating like take me tubing in the snow or ride on horses. that would be cool. do something fun and be my friend, im not asking him to marry me.

@AliceinWonderland First dates should always be very simple and are intended to determine if each person should 'invest' in the other. Coffee, ice cream, walk in the park (literal) or similar.

Fancy and/or expensive date requirements for a first date are a red flag.
@zonavar68 i didn't mean on the first date. and tubing is cheap all you need is an intertube. i just mean do something fun, not fancy or expensive.

I think courtship is more meaningful; thus, “better”. One hopes that dating would become courtship, but spontaneity and intimacy instead of permanent commitment has its time and place also.

I've got no idea what courtship is compared to dating. Never got any help advice teaching etc from anyone to even understand how they are supposed to be different.

I actively encouraged courtship for my daughter.
