Should I respond to my “ex?”

So, I was talking to a guy I had met on Facebook dating. We hit it off, had FaceTimed for weeks, met up, and started essentially going on dates. We both discussed it and came to a mutual agreement that we weren’t going to label it or say we were in a relationship. After spending time with him over a few weeks, I got to the point where I realized it wasn’t going to work out. I told him I’d like to stay friends, and he started saying how much I’d help him grow as a person and that if I was going to be his friend he needed to know that he was self harming. (He told me this as soon as I told him it wasn’t working, not when we were basically dating.) I talked to my friend about it, and she told me that he was using me and trying to guilt me into being with him. He also has a habit of bringing up my insecurities and joking about things and pushing my boundaries. (There had been other instances of him doing this too.) I told him that due to my own personal issues (being where he has been in the past with my own issues and learning that I tended to use people) that remaining friends wouldn’t be the best thing for me, or even for him. I ended up blocking him on everything. Two weeks later, he created another Facebook account just so he could message me asking to talk. I blocked him, but now I’m wondering if I should’ve heard him out and see what he had to say. What should I do?
