I've always seen it like this: it's great for them to have someone they can f*** on the side, while they have the spouse doing everything at home. Plus they don't lose anything: money in the bank account, house, etc... A divorce would cost them a lot.
Basically they want to have it all. Loyalty and honesty mean very little to them.
I must add this applies to both men AND women.
