In England, Valentine’s Day was when you could secretly tell people you like them.
It wasn’t for couple as such.

It's one of the best holidays of the year.

I’ve had similar thoughts over the years at various times. These days my attitude is much simpler. Life is unavoidable stressful/hard for the vast majority of people. There’s surely no shortage of negativity on the daily to deal with. Any reason for people to be happy, even if only for a day, is good. I acknowledge the annoyance of exhibitionist culture / facades that seems even more so now because of social media, but I don’t think shaming people for sharing when they’re simply happy (thus diminishing one’s happiness) is somehow healthier for persons or the society nor nobler or wiser.

That said, the pressure to participate in materialism is greatly dependent on the people we choose to surround ourselves with. If you curate the company you keep then materialism is no longer a burden because the people you hang out with are not materialistic or at least are on your level.

A day on the calendar. Now the 15th! That is cause for celebration! Chocolate goes on sale.

I love it, my girlfriends over the years have always enjoyed going out & I like doing the flowers, jewelry thing but when I date, I like to go out, dining, drinks or partying so I always try to make Valentines Day extra special as I do any special occasion.

I think most people miss the point and don't know the history. I have zero issues with picking a day to appreciate people or a person you love in honor of the real St. Valentine

it's over commercialised, this has ruined the day..

it's put upon us that we should have or find one.. that we must participate..
It's a crock of shit..

Having an obligated day as you call it does not bar you from also showing your love any other times

It's a pointless "holiday".

It's one day, and flowers and anything with a heart become extremely expensive.

Some people are attention hoes. They post every little fart they make because they feel invisible.

there is no switch that i can turn on a specific day and become romantic
