They're pretty much all scams, the ones that are actually real are completely off in the ratios.
So it'll be just like here in a way, women's inbox's get flooded by like 200 messages in one day which pretty much leaves you with no chance of meeting anyone lol.

I've been on eHarmony and I've been out on a few dates. I'm wondering if there is something in the mindset of those on the sites that lifts their benchmark so that they don't find anyone acceptable anymore.

I think its just like Tinder, in that you become de-sensitised in a way. All that choice makes you picky in the end. But you'll never really know what someones like anyway until you meet them face to face. You tend to just click with people in real life and you go by the feelings you get.
Considering its actually chemical, online dating isn't really a good path to take unless its just for fun in my opinion.
