They're gonna get meat either way if y'know what I mean hyuckhyuckhyuckhyuck. Boo. ʕ ᵔᴥᵔʔ
Billybob2 · 26-30, M
@bearinthebigbluehouse good lord...

BlueVeins · 22-25
Of course. Vegetarianism is a pretty damn pro-cruelty position anyway, so they should get along pretty well.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Piper It's certainly true that the dairy industry is similarly cruel, but I'd argue that it's a lot suffering-efficient anyway, so to speak because a smaller number of animals can provide more calories. We've got 32.2 million cows in the US being slaughtered per year versus 121 million hogs and 241.7 million turkeys. I don't think it can be sensibly argued that we consume that much more meat than dairy to account for that gap. That said, I still oppose dairy production -- and perhaps much more importantly, egg production -- for obvious reasons.
Piper · 61-69, F
@BlueVeins Okay, then. I was, am, speaking as someone who stopped eating meat over half my lifetime ago, but still has not succeeded in resisting certain dairy products, sometimes. I know that the factory farming dairy industry is at least as cruel, as is most all production of eggs.

The only "suffering-efficient" I can remotely understand, is in an individual or industry at least attempting to lessen suffering by their choices and actions.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Piper Well, you've definitely got a point about the eggs. I don't think I could try and make hundreds of millions of chickens getting thrown into the macerator seem any less evil than regular old killin' for pork.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
They can. But being a vegetarian makes you protein deficient.
They usually have health problems down the road.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Piper It has for some, and some of them are my friends. But eating meat in its 'natural' pure state is perfectly healthy. Its the toxins induced processed meats that make people ill. For example China eats more pork annually than any other country on Earth. Yet their country has the longest life expectancy in the world.
Billybob2 · 26-30, M
@Zonuss I know wrestlers who are vegan and I have no clue where they get their protein from but they somehow stay in shape.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Zonuss I said simply being a vegetarian does not "make" anyone protein deficient, as you claimed. I said that, because your claim is false. If YOU think you need to eat other animals to get sufficient protein, that is surely your own choice...and business.

Yes I was vegetarian for 5 years during my marriage and he wasn't. It didn't make any problems
Terrasworld · 26-30, F
@SW-User You used the word "was," as in past tense. Is that no longer the case?
SW-User
@Terrasworld Yes I eat meat now
Northwest · M
In every balanced relationship, there are 2-3 buckets:

1. The must bucket: these are the things that both people must believe in/adhere to. This is a couple thing.

2. The to each their own bucket: these are the things that may happen in parallel, like you order a cabernet, and she orders a vodka tonic.

3. The to each their own, but don't do it in front of me.

See where your meat in this bucketizing exercise. I don't eat meat, but I've never been in a relationship with a vegetarian.

It's a good excuse for me not cooking for her. I can burn toast and open a bottle of wine though.

No. Such heresy will bring the wrath of the food gods upon them...
Yes. My mother’s been a vegetarian for about 35 years. Pop doesn’t eat a lot of meat (mostly chicken and fish) but he does still eat it. They’ve been married over 63 years now.
Piper · 61-69, F
I'm sure that depends on a great many factors aside from those two, for most reasonable people. I'm sure of that because in any "couple" relationship I've been in the last 34 years, my being a vegetarian and them eating meat...had zero to do with our not working as a couple.

@gregloa that's a no?
MaryJanine · 61-69, F
Why not? When I lived at home, I ate little or no meat. The rest of the family ate meat and whatever else came with it. I do that today.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
Yes. I'm a vegetarian guy and my ex loved to eat meat. I never stopped her ever but always encouraged her to enjoy the food she wanted.
Pinto · 61-69, M
Sure...they'll never have to share their food in a restaurant.
SW-User
@Pinto its more fun when you get to eat the whole lot
Pinto · 61-69, M
@SW-User I'm actually a "can I have a taste of that?" person when I eat out! 🤭
