Is this weird?

Ok I like this girl. I want to tell her that I like her and maybe ask her out but I don't know if its right. This year I turned 18. Roughly 2 months ago. She's 16 and will be 17 in December. I am really struggling with this. I really do genuinely like her but I'm very torn because I don't know if it's right to tell her I like her and date her because I am technically a 'adult' and she is a 'minor'. Is it wrong to like her?

Make sure you know the law in your jurisdiction. It can be confusing -- here in Canada 16 is the current age of consent for sex (not that you have to have sex any time soon) but it is 18 for sexting, so you have to really check the details! Also, how would people in your community, family, friends feel about it? To me it seems like you are close in age and it would be fine, but context makes a big difference.

I get what you're saying. I'm not looking to have sex or sexting. Maybe a kiss, hug, holding hands but that's really as far as physically. You know what I mean? Idk if that's under the same law. I'll have to look up the law.

Thank you so much for your help.

@ajdavis: I don't think any Western countries have laws about handholding or kissing, but I'm not sure about the rest of the world.

@starsslave: I just don't want to get wrapped up in "You're a adult and kissing a minor is sexual assault". You know? That sort of thing.

@ajdavis: So do check; fortunately the internet is at your fingertips (and maybe she will be too soon ;) )

@starsslave: lol Ok. I'm going to check out the law. Thanks again for your help.
