Is this weird?

Ok I like this girl. I want to tell her that I like her and maybe ask her out but I don't know if its right. This year I turned 18. Roughly 2 months ago. She's 16 and will be 17 in December. I am really struggling with this. I really do genuinely like her but I'm very torn because I don't know if it's right to tell her I like her and date her because I am technically a 'adult' and she is a 'minor'. Is it wrong to like her?

Make sure you know the law in your jurisdiction. It can be confusing -- here in Canada 16 is the current age of consent for sex (not that you have to have sex any time soon) but it is 18 for sexting, so you have to really check the details! Also, how would people in your community, family, friends feel about it? To me it seems like you are close in age and it would be fine, but context makes a big difference.

@starsslave: I just don't want to get wrapped up in "You're a adult and kissing a minor is sexual assault". You know? That sort of thing.

@ajdavis: So do check; fortunately the internet is at your fingertips (and maybe she will be too soon ;) )

@starsslave: lol Ok. I'm going to check out the law. Thanks again for your help.

I would say that's neither wrong nor weird. An age gap of, what, 18 months?, is really nothing. You may need to be careful about statutory rape laws in your area if it progresses to having sex, but most places a gap that small is legal, when she's over 16 (do check, though).

I was 16 when i started seeing my ex and he was 18 and we lasted 17 years so if you like her just go for it :-)
