What are your views on long distance relationships? Do they tend to work?

drymer · 56-60, M
I'd say no, they don't work. Yet, it's nice having someone to think about, someone you can look forward to chat and flirt... So in that sense it can be better than the alternative (being in no relationship at all...) But it's not easy... You won't get the hugs and the kisses you crave, the nice silent moments cuddling with each other... that can be frustrating... The last person I was in love with (many years ago) was a LTR (in another continent) and no it didn't work...

Relationships are based on shared intimacy and shared experience. LDR are harder but not impossible.

It's probably better to split up amicably and leave open the chance of shared intimacy on rate occassions.
Probably not. I see my cousin is trying to hold on to a long distance relationship they live about 140 miles from each other well it’s up to a matter of opinion whether that’s long distance or not but they struggle.

Rarely. Depends on the couple, and how commited they are to each other. For most, relationships are tricky enough, without the added burden of prolonged geographic separation.

I have had one work for 10 years. We are just friends for about 4 years now now but it's been a highly successful relationship 🙂

Yes, long distance,.... but its not a traditional relationship that most people want out of it

I've been in a few and I'll never do it again. :) It just doesn't work for me.
Had a very brief one in early 1980's....didn't work for me.

It somehow worked for me. I have no idea how, though.

Given enough time, they generally don't work out.

Takes dedication and time

I don’t personally know anyone for whom it has. But that’s just my personal frame of reference.
They tend not to, but it's not impossible with perseverance. I had to persevere the first 2byears of my marriage on the Internet until the government let her into the country
